Heath & Safety

At Landau we aim to encourage individuals with disabilities to increase their independence in their lives. We believe that health and safety law and its implementation is relevant to the employer and all employees, whether disabled or not. We are committed to ensuring that people with learning disabilities stay safe and healthy throughout the process.

Health and Safety Law and the Disability Discrimination Act should enable an increase in the employability and retention of disabled individuals. When risk management is approached positively and sensibly, it should encourage the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in the workplace. Risk assessments should look broadly at the overall demands of work and how best to manage the associated risks rather than focussing on the individual’s disability.

Landau provides supervision, training and instruction for all employees, and ensure that they are competent and equipped to carry out their jobs properly. This will contribute to the development of a high standard of health and safety.

We want:

  • Employers to develop a working environment in which employees feel safe and supported to disclose and discuss its impact (including potential barriers to engagement, development and advancement within the workplace) on the management of their disability or long term health condition;
  • Employees to work collaboratively with employers to help manage risk and to discuss positively with their employer approaches to making reasonable adjustments;
  • The findings of risk assessments to provide clear recommendations wherever appropriate on how reasonable adjustments and timescales for implementing them are to be built into successful risk management.

Our aim is to encourage individuals to increase their independence safely – from personal safety training to safety in the workplace and independent travel. We provide intense one-to-one training.
