Shropshire Housing Alliance (SHA) and Wrekin Housing Trust seek to improve the employment prospects of Wrekin Housing Trust Tenants through increased access to work placement opportunities, apprentice vacancies and volunteer opportunities. Under the BBO Shropshire project, SHA will expand its services to include support for tenants to improve their employment prospects. Eligible tenants will, with support, access work placements, voluntary and training opportunities.
The project will specifically engage with Wrekin Housing Trust tenants affected by current welfare reform changes such as the benefit cap. Predominantly the focus will be tenants under 35 years of age, in receipt of housing benefit and who are likely be affected by the shared room LHA rate from April 2019.
Activities may include:
- Personal assessment to ensure services match participants’ needs;
- Support to acquire appropriate skills, learning and training activities, including literacy, numeracy and digital skills;
- Personalised and flexible advice and guidance in accordance with the participants aspirations, to building confidence, knowledge, skills, resilience and ambitions to move towards work and out of poverty;
- Personal development through peer support to raise confidence, self-esteem and help participants overcome more complex barriers.
