Through the Doorway to Healthy Living
Through the Doorway to Healthy Living delivers a variety of taster sessions and courses aimed at raising self-confidence and self-esteem, whilst giving people the skills to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Taster sessions and courses are organised around three main themes:
Exercise improves physical fitness and helps manage excess weight. It is also beneficial to mental health, particularly for stress reduction and lifting low mood. Experienced tutors pro-vide Yoga, Pilates, Tai chi, Dance and, Keep Fit. For participants who cannot stand for long, chair-based exercise such as Extend or chair-based Yoga can be provided.
Cookery courses focus on preparing healthy food on a budget. They are hands-on with par-ticipants learning a variety of cookery skills. Courses also include information and advice on basic food hygiene, understanding food labels, food groups and portion control. Recipes used and techniques taught can be adapted to participants’ abilities, likes and dislikes.
Health and Well-being “Pampering”
Pampering health and well-being courses focus on raising self-confidence and self-esteem as well as giving people a chance to relax through a little bit of “me time”. Exact course con-tent can be developed according to the needs and interests of participants and can include relaxation, massage, personal grooming, skin and nail care. This provision covers Shropshire and courses can be delivered at flexible venues.
