Long Term Unemployed Lands Ideal Job

Harry* had been unemployed for a number of years, unnerved by a lack of confidence from his time out of the workforce, Harry found presenting himself to employers a real challenge.
 
 

Feeling lost…

Harry had an idea of what career he’d like to pursue but was challenged by the competitive nature of the industry.

Harry shared his misgivings with local service providers who referred him to the Building Better Opportunities Shropshire program, delivered through funding provided by the Big Lottery and European Social Fund.

Landau BBO Partner, Severnside Housing, created a bespoke plan to help combat Harry’s anxiety, breaking down the steps to ensure Harry didn’t feel overawed by the process.

The program provided Harry with the opportunity to undergo training in Health & Safety and ICT, helping Harry to focus more clearly on the area of work he wanted to go into.
 
 

Confidence restored…

Supported in writing a new CV to reflect his fresh skills, he now possessed the tools, skills and confidence to actively pursue his ideal position, growing in confidence and motivation to approach employers.
The program shortly thereafter created the opportunity to shadow his chosen trade, so impressed by his dedication and attention to detail, the employer who supported his voluntary experience offered him a job!
 
 
Reflecting on his journey with Building Better Opportunities Program, Harry says:
